DJI Osmo Mobile 4 Review 2021

Do you still need gimbals for smartphones in 2021?

Hi, Everyone, I’m Mustafa Rangoonwala from Holistic Meaning, I am going to Review DJI OSMO 4 Gimbal which is known as one of the best gimbals available in the market as a matter of fact some websites has given it best gimbal for Vlogging. I have already written an article on Top 3 Mobile Gimbals in which OM4 was the winner but here we will see it in a different angle. Also, I would recommend reading Zhiyun Smooth 4 Review 2021.

It is very similar to Osmo mobile 3 and is quite similar in shape and size but has some cool new features in this video, I will talk about my first impressions and whether or not you still need gimbals for smartphones in 2021?

DJI Osmo Mobile 4 Review 2021

So let’s go ahead and take a closer look now when you buy the Osmo mobile 4, this is all that comes in the package, now one thing you will notice is missing this year is that last year we had a chance to get this pretty case for this, with the Osmo mobile 4 we only have a soft case and for the most part I agree with that because when I was travelling with my Osmo mobile 3 my case would always come out at home and I just put it in my camera bag, but they include this cute and soft case will protect you, whether you store it in your luggage or your camera bag.

Osmo mobile 3 we have a tripod we have the unit itself we have a USB-C cable to charge we have a wrist strap this is what’s new this year is that they have this magnetic phone holder and we’ll do it Take a closer look here in a minute, we have second magnetic support and again we will see it more closely.

We have a spacer we have an alignment plate to attach the magnetic mount, and of course, we have literature, so take a closer look at the unit, you can see that it is quite similar to last year’s model Both in shape and size, it has a foldable design, compact enough for travel, the buttons and settings are very similar, we have a joystick on the front, we have a record button and a trigger, we also have a mode and power button on the side.

We have our zoom control on the right side we have a USB-c port for charging under that little flap we have a USB-a port so we can charge our smartphone when it’s rear-mounted we have a fire button And of course at the bottom, we have a quarter of 20 to hold things like tripods and extension cords compared to the Osmo mobile 3 on the left side.

You can see it is the same shape and size, the weight of both units is more or less the same, you can see they have changed the colour, it is now light grey compared to the darker grey of the Osmo mobile 3 But one of the biggest changes This year’s is this new magnetic mounting system because you can see it snap into place like this.

Now when I first saw this ad I thought it was just a gimmick but after using it I see the value of that and let’s get back to that a bit more as we continue in the video with the Osmo Mobile 4 DJI offers two ways of connecting your phone to the gimbal, the first one is the clamp that I already showed you and we have this little ring that can be directly connected to a phone that you can see there is a sticker on the back

There is also a small ring that you can unfold that it helps you hold your phone when you hold it so it really depends on how you want to connect your phone, it is more permanent once you paste it, it is there permanently, DJI sells them separately on their website so if you paste it on your phone and upgrade your phone, you can buy an Acemento replica for me I just use the phone clamp and it works quite easily like that and I really like how this magnetic IC system works.

You can see that it just looks like that and the connection is really strong. I’m not very concerned about the drop at all. I said I was not very sure about this system. magnetic and if it was just a device or not, but to me the other day while testing it, I actually had this clip on my phone all day and night and uh it wasn’t bothersome to have it there, uh it didn’t seem bothersome if you’re travelling or doing any kind of adventure you can leave this clip on your phone so that you are on vacation and it is always ready for you and I think that is one of the problems that people have with these gimbals is that they are not always so convenient to use.

DJI Osmo Mobile 4 Features

In theory, this is a good idea but sometimes it can be a bit difficult to use if you are on tour and filming with your gimbal and want to put it away, you need to take your phone apart and then when you want to film it again you have to put your phone on the base, rebalance it, and sometimes you don’t bother because it is very tedious to do this person, sometimes you tend not to use it as much because you don’t want to balance your phone all the time during the day, but with a system like this, you can connect and disconnect it whenever you want.

So I think this is a very useful feature and not really a gimmick now, an important question is whether we still need smartphone gimbals in 2021. Smartphones have come a long way in 2021. and the stabilization and image quality on a smartphone is pretty good, most phones today have some kind of electronic image stabilization, high-end ones even have optical image stabilization, so you know stabilization is good enough for me, I must say that for most people the gimbal is not really necessary these days.

After all, the reason cell phone cameras have become so popular is that they are so easy to use that they are always in your pocket, so you can take them out and take pictures when you want to add a gimbal. similar to this, mixing is a bit awkward, but there is definitely still a market for them after all DJI wouldn’t continue to develop new models if there weren’t any, but I think today ‘Hui people use them for more specific tasks, for example, if you are a solo.

As the Content Creator, these things work great as a videographer, you can mount it on a tripod using Active Track 3.0 and the camera will follow you as you move, great for someone who might need to tell a cooking channel on youtube when you go from the top of the fridge to the oven, the camera will follow you everywhere, so in such situations a gimbal is perfect.

A gimbal-like this is also great for easily creating panoramas, as you can see in your photos, with the click of a button you can create a nice 3×3 panorama or even a nice wide angle panorama so if you are a landscape photographer and you want to get some nice panoramas with your smartphone, using something like this is awesome and the motion times is another great reason to take something like this if you mount it on a tripod.

You can do some really nice shake times and finally if you want to shoot in low light the electronic image stabilization on the phone doesn’t work very well so there is always a market for smartphone gimbals it just depends on how to use it if you are short film content creator with your smartphone something like this is definitely beneficial now before you go.

A gimbal-like this you are not going to ride a mountain bike and you are not going to jog with it if you are a person who wants to film yourself jogging there are better options on the market. Yeah, it does a pretty decent job of keeping things stable, sure if you walk in any way you will still get that up and down motion that is common to all stabilizers.

The notes app has not changed much since the Osmo mobile 3 but now there are some new features if you are going to buy the Osmo mobile 4 this will be your first DJI gimbal you will need to download the notes app which is what i am using now because This gimbal needs to be activated through the notes app before you can use it, but as you can see the interface is very similar with some settings that we can enter and configure a manual.

We can change our resolution, we can set it to 4k at 60fps and sure enough, we have all our gimbal settings and different things right there in the centre, we could set the zoom level, we can go to a wide-angle shot or we can zoom in on the right and of course we can use the side stick to zoom in even closer when zoomed in, up to where it is now in digital zoom on the left side we can see that we have an option where we can activate all of our gesture controls.

We can turn it on and off now if we go all the way to the right, this is where we switch all our shooting modes, we have all the standard modes, we have a slow-motion photos video panel and you can see a new one called dynamic zoom and it’s basically a devilish zoom or vertical effect similar to what we can do with the zoom of the Mavic 2 and now recently with the Mavic air 2. so one of those things, they’re a bit nifty, it’s not something I’m going to use much.

They are fun to play and maybe you can do some interesting B-roll sequences, but it’s not really something I would use very often, I tried making one with it. The effect is quite good, maybe you have a better chance of keeping it stable than me now, just like the Osmo mobile 3, we can drag on the screen draw a box around ‘an object and we can automatically follow it in the other direction.

Tracking is just lining up the subject in the frame and then hitting the shutter button and as you can see it will automatically follow you and a third way to do that is to use your gestures there on the right side, you can set a gesture to start shooting. track, so yeah, people who are Osmo mobile 4.

Is it a good idea to upgrade to Osmo Mobile 4?

If you have Osmo mobile 3 you are probably not sure if there are enough changes to justify spending money to improve performance, you will not get any improvement. Now if you like this magnetic system then maybe so definitely something you might want to consider, but for the most part, it’s pretty similar to last year’s model but should you upgrade to OM 4 if you have Osmo Mobile 3? I would rather say No, but it’s my personal view. For OM3 customers I would say that if you want to go for Megnatic performance and want to try a new one then definitely you should go for it.

Now if you don’t have any smartphone gimbal and are looking for a gimbal, I highly recommend it many smartphone gimbals that I have reviewed a lot over the years on my websites and when it comes to performance and value for money, I really like the Osmo mobile series, I think they do a good job for it.

Price and the folding function is a bit good because if you want to pack this in a camera bag it won’t be too inconvenient. I’m a little curious if any of you have already done it. I bought the Osmo mobile and what you think about it let me know in the comments below.

Final Verdict: DJI Osmo Mobile 4 is the best mobile gimbal in class you can buy in 2021. Trust me, you will never regret buying such a powerful performance gimbal. If you are new and want to try Gimbal for the first time, I suggest you do it as you don’t have to worry about pimples. For advanced level users, I would reserve the rights for them as they may have their own view of the magnetic moment and some users may like manual manipulation.

That’s it for this will see you in the next review article till then Good Bye!!
