Instructions and Steps to Follow
1. Mix a vinegar solution. Pour an equal quantity (1:1) of water and white vinegar into the electric kettle. Add this solution until the kettle is about one-half or three-quarters full.
2. Boil the solution. Switch on the kettle and let the solution boil for a few minutes, then turn the kettle off, unplug it, and let it cool and allow the solution to sit in the kettle for at least 15 or 20 minutes. If the limescale inside the kettle is really in bad shape, increase the quantity of white vinegar in the solution, boil it again and leave the mixture in the kettle for a longer period of time.
3. Scrub and Rinse. Pour out the vinegar and water solution and rinse the kettle couple of times with fresh water. Use a scrubby or a bottle brush to give the interior a gentle scrub. If hard limescales or gunk still remains then use the rough side of a non-metallic sponge or cloth to scrub the interior of the kettle.
4. Rinse with plain water. If there is any vinegar taste or smell left in the kettle, boil water in it again and rinse it. Repeat the cycle couple of times, this will remove any remaining vinegar smell or taste. When completely descaled and the smell of vinegar have been rinsed away, wipe the kettle with a soft cloth and leave it to air dry. Your electric kettle is clean and ready for use again.
